The Riches of our Citizenship in Christ - Pastor Pogue

The Book of Ephesians, Day 4

Ephesians 2:11-22

Why can we be near to God?

  • Paul gives several metaphors in these verses that show gentiles can now be near to God

  • Christ made a way for the Gentiles to be made near as well, just as the Jews

  • The blood of Jesus made a way for this

  • We have new access to God through Jesus sacrifice.

  • Previously only the high priest could go into the Holy of Holies, but now we can enter through the Door who is Christ

  • We have access now through our new relationship with God made possie by Christ.

  • Now aliens can be citizens! (V 12)

  • Think about the benefits of being a citizen!

  • Jesus makes believers citizens. We have the indwelling to Christ, the resurrection power of Christ

  • V 13 - He is our peace

  • V 14-15 - the separating wall broken down and warfare ended - Christ is our peace!

  • We were at war with God apart from Christ.

  • All “races” are equal in the sight of God physically. Spiritually, all are equal in Christ.

  • God has come for both the “near and the far”

How is this possible?

  • The answer is by the blood of Jesus!

  • So important to understand the importance of the Blood of Christ!

  • God set this way up since the beginning slaying an animal to cover the sin of Adam and Eve in garden.

  • The blood fulfills the Old Covenant

  • Hebrews 9:14-15 - Christ is the mediator of the New Covenant through the shedding of His Blood! This made active the New Testament.

  • Christ abolished in hid flesh the enmity between God and believing  sinners.

  • The law was given to show us why are sinners

  • Jesus came and fulfilled the law, and abolished its power over us.

  • Jesus is our peace!

  • Colossians 1:20 - we are reconciled to God

  • Jesus paid for all of our sins

  • You don't need a preacher to talk to God; nor a priest; nor a church; you just need Jesus!

What should I do as a result?

  • Trust the power of his shed blood, it can wash ALL sin stains away; know that you have access to God through his blood

  • Worship God for his glorious sacrifice. When we worship, we have access to God the Father!

  • Serve God through His church. Jesus is the chief cornerstone upon which the church is built. We have been bought with the blood of Christ and God dwells with us because we are citizens of God's kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord!
